What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is an extremely efficient and effective way to get into world-class shape.
Our workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements (like pushups and pull-ups, deadlifts and squats, gymnastics, kettle bells, running, rowing, and Olympic lifting), executed at high intensity in a group setting.
Essentially, a fun, friendly, yet high-intensity boot camp, with weights.
CrossFit is for anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Our members range from professional athletes to moms of all ages and musicians who can barely walk and chew gum at the same time.
In short, if you care about health, real-world performance, or just want to look better naked, CrossFit is for you.
What is AECrossFit?
AE CrossFit is one of the newest CrossFit gyms in the Boston area staffed with professional trainers on the cutting edge of the CrossFit workout.
AE CrossFit shares a home with Athletic Evolution – one of Boston’s best facilities for athletic and physical achievement, having grown from a 15,000 sq. foot gym to a 30,000 sq. foot athletic enhancement training center with dozens of trainers and coaches training more than 1,500 athletes each week.
AE CrossFit is more than just being in great shape, it’s a real community – our members are a part of a team who start and finish each workout together, root for each other by name and even get together outside of the gym.
We have 30,000 sq. feet of space at Athletic Evolution constantly evolving to accommodate growth and perfect the training experience.

The best way to get a real sense of CrossFit is to stop by and take one of our FREE Intro to CrossFit Classes. (See Schedule). Each includes some careful instruction on basic movements, a mini CrossFit workout based on those movements and a detailed explanation of our view of fitness today.
Our Intro to CrossFit classes are available daily. Refer to our online schedule for days and times.

Our “Intro to CrossFit” Classes are suitable for all fitness levels. Trying a new class, workout phenomenon or gym can be intimidating – we know that. Our professional trainers have developed ramp up CrossFit classes that allow anyone to “jump right in,” regardless of the shape they’re in. And then it’s just a matter of time…
After trying out an Intro to CrossFit Class or two, most people are hooked! They see they’ve wasted a lot of time in the gym and that CrossFit will get them in the best shape of their lives – FAST. Then, you move onto our Cross-Fit Pre-Game.
Pre-game is a 15-minute workshop, held at the beginning of every workout and mandatory for everyone throughout the first month of their AE CrossFit program. Pre-Game covers the basics of CrossFit – you’ll practice perfect form on the movements that make up our workouts, learn how to scale movements appropriately to your own individual level and ramp up your CrossFit workout at the end of each class. We require all of our members to complete the Pre-Game, so that they can safely, effectively and confidently head into our general Workout of the Day classes.
Where is AE CrossFit?
We’re located at 78b Olympia Ave, Woburn, MA – Right off of Routes 93 and 128!
Do I need experience or a basic fitness level?
Nope. Our workouts and exercises can be scaled to maximize a workout at any level. Our program is designed to accommodate an 85-year-old woman or people with weight challenges, all the way up to elite athletes – they’ve all survived. You will too.
What if it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a gym and I’m scared to death?
We promise, you’ll be fine. Trust us – we’ve trained many people who were fatter, weaker, older and less “athletic” than you. They made it – AND came back! More importantly, most of them joined Athletic Evolution and are now in great shape.
I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?
While we are not physicians (and we highly recommend you discuss any workout program with yours), we do find that many of our members have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements and to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. At the same time, our trainers are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises and tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and again we advise that you consult your physician before starting this (or any other) exercise program. We even have a licensed Chiropractor, Physical Therapist and Masseuse in house!
What does an Intro to CrossFit class look like?
This class has a quick intro to CrossFit. There will be some stretching, some basic movement work to learn perfect form and then a brief workout based on those movements. This 30 minute class is a great way to get a real taste of the CrossFit approach. You are welcome to attend as many beginner classes as you’d like, but most people are sold after 1-2 classes. (Prepare to find out that you’ll get a better workout, in far less time than ever before!)
I’m a workout fanatic, really want to skip the beginners class and take a Workout of the Day class, can I do that?
Show us your stuff during our 15-minute Pre-Game and you’re on your way. Never done Cross Fit before? You must complete an Intro to CrossFit class and a Pre-Game before being allowed to participate and attach one of our WOD classes. You’ll thank us later!
Wait a minute, what if I’m REALLY fit?
No means no. If you are really, really fit, we can scale up the workouts in the Intro to CrossFit class for you. We promise to leave you lying on the floor; sore and gasping (if that’s what you want) even after one Intro class.
What if I can’t fit a Pre-Game into my schedule? Do you offer private sessions?
Yes, we offer hour-long pre-game sessions at our standard personal training rate. Please call for details or to schedule that session.
I just relocated to Boston, but I’ve been CrossFitting so long that I named my kids “Fran” and “Helen.” Can I please come to a WOD class?
Let’s talk about it – we will assess your Crossfit abilities and determine during a Pre-Game. It’s just 15 minutes and keeps everyone safe! To discuss further, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’ve got the CrossFit bug and brought it with you from somewhere else.
I’m just visiting Boston, but I’ve been CrossFitting for so long that I do muscle-ups in my sleep. Can I please come to a WOD class?
We welcome experienced CrossFitters from all over the world. Just check our class schedule and come in for a WOD class (please do not call or email in advance, just show up at an appointed class time). Be sure to let your trainer know your level of experience with CrossFit and if you have any limitations. Please note that it’s $20 cash to drop in ($15 for full-time mil/fire/police/students).
Can I just come to Athletic Evolution and workout on my own?
Annual memberships to Athletic-Evolution are available, but unsupervised workouts are not part of a monthly CrossFit Membership. We take pride in offering you the best fitness available with qualified trainers. We only offer classes and one-on-one sessions, which yields better, safer, and faster results than having people simply use the facility by themselves. What do I need to bring?
Just yourself. And basic ‘workout clothes’ – shorts or sweats, a t-shirt, sneakers, water bottle. We provide everything else.

Do I have to become a member to do Personal Training?

Yes you can–printed, emailed or both.
Do you sell t-shirts?

Do you have showers?
Yes we do! We have 2 individual showers, each with its own private changing room. You need to bring your favorite shower essentials and a towel! We will get you sweaty and provide the water – the rest is up to you.
